About
The Balwadi is the brain child of our Sophia Nursery School. It was introduced in the year 1990. It opened its doors to economically challenged children and gives them an opportunity to be integrated into the mainstream of education. They then have access to the best of schools and are given a jump start in life. It
started as a class of 20 children and the number of children is steadily growing. The age criteria is 2.6 years - 3.6 years. They are with us for a period of one year.
Our Main Goal & Aim
Essentially to provide equal opportunities and right to learning for all children. Education is provided to the economically challenged using English Language as the medium to integrate the children into the main stream of education in most of the English medium schools. The entire training entails one year equivalent to any normal Nursery class at the end of which children are confidently able to join the main stream.
Our Policy
Here the children are treated at par with the other children of higher socio economic status. Equal opportunities are provided to them by the way of classroom, best teaching aids and efficient and qualified staff.
Criteria for Admission
The individual background of each child is carefully scrutinized by looking into the educational and financial status of the parents. Home visits are mandatory after which the deserving child is selected.
Looking Ahead
After a year at Sophia Nursery School children are ready to be integrated and absorbed by some of the best schools of Mumbai. The Balwadi parents leave us with great gratitude, returning year after year to keep us informed about the excellent progress of their children.
Outreach
Over the years Sophia Nursery School has reached out to the under-privileged in different ways. School fees of needy children have been paid by the parents of Sophia Nursery School. Each year at Christmas and Diwali, hampers and gifts are generously distributed amongst the needy.
